Devil's Night Series by Penelope Douglas (Reviews)

Image
* I couldn't get my hands on "Conclave" for free, and since it's not a key book in the series, I decided not to buy it. There is no review for this book.  Corrupt Hideaway Honestly, I wish I had more to say, but this was a bit of a let down compared to Corrupt in my opinion. Looking back, it focused more on Damon than the protagonists and honestly, I wanted to feel more connected to the characters. Kai, even from his perspective, seems closed off, and I was hoping that by the end I'd feel like I knew him, but no such look. Kai   was meh and for me and so was banks. She was driven and ambitious, but Rika was taunting, pure fire and gave as good as she got. Whereas I felt like, we never got to see banks bad-side, which is a shame because I know she has one. In all fairness to Penelope, I really did enjoy seeing how Banks tried to navigate her old life from her knew one. And her love for Damon v.s Kai. I think she'll develop more of a tongue later on in the book...

Corruption by Penelope Douglas (review)

Image
Wow. Okay wow. First of all this is the hundredth book I have read 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳. I've been meaning to read this for months, and Penelope rarely disappoints. Welp, this did more than not disappoint IT WAS AMAZING.  The spoiler-free version is that the plot was incredible, the writing and smut was fucking amazing, I'm in love with the main character an d not only did Pen elope show off a sexy kick ass gay character in the perfect way but in a fucked up round-about way, I found it to be quite the feminist read.  Now lets get to business 😎. First up, the goddamn story line Most romance books I read are only okay at the storyline. What I mean by this, is that, outside of the romance, there is nothing. Like, the actual trope will be good, and you feel like you know the characters, but romance is the only aspect to the book. This on the other hand 🤯. It was like a horror, mystery and romance all wrapped up into one whilst including, I hate every girl but you and bad boy trope....

Verity by Colleen Hoover RWM

Dude, I wasn't going to do a RWM for Verity but I can't not do one... HERE WE GO!!!!!!!!!!! 14:02- please don't sleep with her husband 14:31- that house is creepy 14:36- welp, the little boy is from a horror movie 14:40- I take it back, he's adorable. 14: 54- bruv that woman scares me... "The words should come directly from the center of the gut, tearing through flesh and bone as they break free. Ugly and honest and bloody and a little bit terrifying, but completely exposed."  ?????????? 14:58- WTF. He married a psychopath. "What you read will taste so bad at times, you’ll want to spit it out, but you’ll swallow these words and they will become part of you, part of your gut, and you will hurt because of them." 💀💀💀 15:02- she just said " Don’t judge me. I was a starving artist and it was ridiculously expensive. I intended to make up for the theft when I had the money. I’d donate to a charity or save a baby or something ." 15:04- ummm, how...

Five reasons why "Stalking Jack the Ripper" isn't feminist

Before u start reading, this is a criticism is based of the first book alone due to the fact that I don't care enough to finish the whole series and this does contain spoilers. Every single victim is female Now, the reason for this is because the novel written by Kerri Maniscalo is based on true events that occurred in the 19th century, which is already rocky territory. For me, taking real life murders and fictionalizing them is not going to end well. At the end of the day we're talking about real life people and if an account is going to be written, it needs to remain completely factual to the story. Did she do this? Nope. But that's another story. Anyway, my issue with the murders isn't the fact that they're all female, it's how they're all portrayed. To me it's very much, "I'm the damsel in distress waiting for men to save me." Uhh, women who follow societies exceptions (female resentment) d This highlights two of my points. The first be...

How To Get Out Of A Reading Slump

It feels like ages since I've posted. I've been in a massive reading slump, but now I'm out of it!!!!!!!!!! so anyways, how d you get out of a reading slump? ✨By reading this ✨ . 1) COMPETITION I'm to fucking competitive for my own good, to the point where I have read awful books that were a complete waste of time, just so I could finish it before my friends... If you have friends who read, or even have a goodreads account and can see what other people are reading so you can beat them, it'll help make you read. 2) SWITCH THINGS UP If I'm getting bored of reading actual books, I'll use audio-books and vice versa. As well as this, even though it's not technically books, finding a good podcast can rlly help 3) RE-READ BOOKS If you have a book you love and it's been a while since you last read it, DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN. 4) FAVORITE AUTHOR? If you have an author who you love, it makes it much easier to start a book and feel invested in it, just because hop...

Breathless by Jennifer Niven (review)

This was apart of my tbr authors list  so I was like, "Imma do a review" 'cause why not. So first of, Jennifer Niven is the author of "All the Bright Places" which has been made into a netflix movie and that was how I discovered her and her books. To be honest, I really do a pprop riate "All the Bright Places" 'cause it got me through some dark times when I was just struggling and it made me feel like I wasn't alone but I do have to say that "Holding up the universe" is probably her best book and because of that it became fairly obvious that she was a GOOD author. Like most people who have one big hit... let's just say it's for a reason... BUT Jennifer did not disappoint. I wanted to read more, and then she did disappoint... 😮‍💨. So basically this girl who's name I don't remember, lets just call her Jenny, goes to an island after her mother and farther get divorced. She's leaving her best friends behind, her dad ...

How to pick which audio book to buy

LOOK, I GET IT, this seems REALLY boring BUT please if your not going to read the whole thing JUST LISTEN TO THE SAMPLE and you'll find out why if you actually decide to read this. so, welcome back to this blog and if u read my shit often u'll know that I'm very much into free audiobooks. HOWEVER, when you start getting to the more niche books, that's when u need audible. At some point I will do a guide to how audible works and what app works best but for now it's just going to be, what you need to think about for whatever audiobook so you don't waste £8. There are two situations where these don't really apply and thats: 1. If you have already listened to the free version and now want to be able to listen to it offline 2. If you have started listening to an audiobook series and really want to finish it but a certain audiobook is'nt available freely so you need to buy it. Otherwise, PLEASE READ THIS. So obviously you have seen a book recommended somewher...

Heart Bones by Colleen Hoover (review)

My first thought, Sarah is doing wonders for my ED. If you've read it and can remember her you'd know that I'm being sarcastic. THANKFULLY, that stopped pretty quick and I didn't have to endure a book about dieting. Other than that, the plot; ⭐⭐⭐. It was just pretty unbelievable that  Beyah never again mentioned her mother, that her dad just bought her a plane ticket in the middle of the night, that his new wife and step-daughter are perfectly happy to have her, that he was never notified by the police, that no one talked about how she destroyed that camera, that she'd never shared any secrets until this one guy came into the picture, that she miraculously decided to go to law school and waited FOUR goddamn years for this one boy. Actually never mind ⭐⭐. Everything else, 4-5 stars. I liked the main characters but I mean, it really did just paint rich people as people with no personality or life experience whatsoever however the moral 🙏.  The overall summar...

Call Me By Your Name by André Aciman (TBR)

The last time I tried to start reading this, was when I was in a audiobook slump. This happens a lot and I will binge like 15 minutes of five different audiobooks until I find one that I like. Call Me By Your name was on those titles and it wasn't the vibe I was expecting. I was thinking summer school drama good boy bad boy romance, maybe early 2000's. I was deadly mistaken. One day when going onto my mum's Netflix account (without her knowing) I saw the title. I was like cool I'll just watch the movie since I wasn't really that into it. Then, I WATCHED THE TRAILER.  I'll be back with the book review, lol

The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer (review)

*TW - stalking, sexual assault, emotional manipulation and other questionable behavior... The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer BTW, more in-depth reviews of the individual books are coming (when I can be arsed to re-read them) I feel like everyone has seen a twilight review and we all know that it's misogynistic but I'm just going to point out the most creepy stalkery bits that people don't focus on. 1.  In breaking dawn p1 Bella has sex with Edward and gets extremely bruised but is like "no it's fine!" Then when she gets pregnant even though she could die, she's like i'm keeping the baby. Not exactly the best thing to influence women and their sex lives. 2.  In the 3rd book, Jacob basically says to Bella that if she doesn't kiss him he'll kill himself? He also forces Bella to kiss him before that in another book. 3.  The way that Bella is constantly doubting herself and thinking she's not good enough for Edward. A living corpse. Who loves...

All Eyes on Us by Kit Frick (review)

Trigger warning *conversion therapy* Summary The story focuses on two main female characters. They both have the same boyfriend except one of them is lesbian and the other one actually likes him. The dick's name is Carta and he's like a classic psychopath; rich, football star, incredibly kind to everyone. Just screams a nut job. Anyways, the two girls end up being stalked by a private number and at first it may seem like this private number is out to get Rosalie and Amanda, but fuck no! They be out to get Carta. A couple messages, threats and injuries later, the two girls come face to face with who they think private is. Turns out, it's not Ben and David, it's mother fucking... Review OMG! OMG! OMG! 🚨 🚨 🚨 Spoiler alert 🚨 🚨 🚨 ... IT'S CARTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited! Do you know how difficult it has become for books to shock me?????????? Usually I'm like, yh ik that's the killer. BUT DAMN. I was not expecting that. Okay...

Everything I liked about Fallen by Lauren Kate (SPOILERS)

Image
The (few) best things about Fallen I was really looking forward to reading this book and it was so disappointing. I had the whole series ready to go and prepared myself for a week long binge BUT NO 😤. I am going to list all the things I like about this book (literally just the characters)  - . I really like Penn. She's sooo nice and I was devastated when she died and wanted to cry soo hard. I didn't though. For some reason I barely ever cry. . ✨Arriane✨. I FUCKING LOVE THAT GIRL. Definitely my type. . Todd is like the male version of me. I love studying and again, I wanted to cry when he died. . I would literally date Molly just for her fashion sense. . Mrs Shelby. I'm so that person who loves a psychopathic female character. If you like her I would recommend binging My Hero Academia Toga Himiko clips on YouTube. Lol. Yh, those are the only good things about this book, but if you truly wish to listen  click here .
