Devil's Night Series by Penelope Douglas (Reviews)
Hideaway
Honestly, I wish I had more to say, but this was a bit of a let down compared to Corrupt in my opinion.
Looking back, it focused more on Damon than the protagonists and honestly, I wanted to feel more connected to the characters. Kai, even from his perspective, seems closed off, and I was hoping that by the end I'd feel like I knew him, but no such look.
Kai was meh and for me and so was banks. She was driven and ambitious, but Rika was taunting, pure fire and gave as good as she got. Whereas I felt like, we never got to see banks bad-side, which is a shame because I know she has one. In all fairness to Penelope, I really did enjoy seeing how Banks tried to navigate her old life from her knew one. And her love for Damon v.s Kai. I think she'll develop more of a tongue later on in the books and I can't wait!
Furthermore, I kind of found the main relationship creepy and controlling. Honestly, the thing I most remember from this is...
“Want her?” Will cut in. “What the hell would he want with her when we have top-shelf chicks in our cars right now? Didn’t you see how she was dressed? No make-up, guys’ clothes... She’s a feminist.” 💀💀💀💀. I almost died laughing
Kill Switch
I don't even know what happened. I really can't remember. I love Damon as a character (not a person) bc he's multi-layered. Winter on the other hand bored me. Also HE RAPED HER. Why the fuck are they married now?
Anyways, the underlying review thingy is that it kept me interested and felt quick paced but there was nothing memorable about it. Like, I read it, I enjoyed it, and then it's just gone from memory.
Nightfall
This is gonna be a long review...
1. The pace was so confusing for me. Sometimes it felt like it was going so quickly and other times, I was just like, "hurry the fuck up." Very confusing.
2. The way that Will treats Emory is just not okay. He justifies it by saying that she sent him to prison but come on now. She was young and scared about her grandma. Haven't you learnt from Rika not to blame the girl you love for getting you into prison?
3. I felt like it stopped being about Will and Emory and I didn't really understand her character anymore. As well as that, where tf was Will's humour. IK he's changed from prison and shit but I didn't know who I was reading about half the time. Was it Will or a dead man?
4. There is no way I'm the only one who could not keep up with the ending. I just spent the whole time not knowing who was who. Lol.
But saying all that, if you ignore everything that happens after they get out of black church, I LOVED IT. So basically ignore everything after that.
Fire Night
I rlly loved this. It's short, quick paced, and gives you an insight to what the future hold for Thunder Bay. Sadly, there won't be a spin-off series as far as I know but even so, read this book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
