The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer (review)
*TW - stalking, sexual assault, emotional manipulation and other questionable behavior...
BTW, more in-depth reviews of the individual books are coming (when I can be arsed to re-read them)
I feel like everyone has seen a twilight review and we all know that it's misogynistic but I'm just going to point out the most creepy stalkery bits that people don't focus on.
1. In breaking dawn p1 Bella has sex with Edward and gets extremely bruised but is like "no it's fine!" Then when she gets pregnant even though she could die, she's like i'm keeping the baby. Not exactly the best thing to influence women and their sex lives.
2. In the 3rd book, Jacob basically says to Bella that if she doesn't kiss him he'll kill himself? He also forces Bella to kiss him before that in another book.
3. The way that Bella is constantly doubting herself and thinking she's not good enough for Edward. A living corpse. Who loves to suck blood. And has killed several people...
4. The fact that Bella marries so young and is forced to leave her family for a boy.
5. This stupid thing about Bella needing to stay pure so she can't be a vampire. It's just weird.
6. How fucking territorial both the boys (Jacob and Edward) are over Bella as if they own her
7. Both the book and the movie portray Bella as weak and in need of saving by both Jacob and Edward.
And this isn't misogynistic or anything but isn't it a bit creepy how Jacob doesn't actually love Bella but loves the egg inside her stomach????? Like tf.
This is definitely one of those books where people love it despite how problematic it is. Take me for example, it is extremely problematic. And I still love it.
Call it a guilty pleasure.
I would still recommend watching the movie/ reading the book but be prepared for the sexism. It can get a bit questionable at some points...
If you want to listen to the audio book click here
P.S if you don't want to listen it because it's too sexist there is life and death twilight re-imagined. I have never listened to this but it's meant to be a gender swapped version. This might be just as sexist except towards men not women so tell me what you think if you read it.
